The Wheeler School
Providence, RI

The Wheeler School, founded in 1889, is an independent day school serving 800 students from nursery school through the twelfth grade. In an effort to revitalize the campus and expand its mission and services, ABA completed a campus Master Plan and conceptual design for multiple academic buildings. Phase one, includes a 10,000SF new Student Center that serves as the gateway to the School’s campus. The Center provides student activity space and science classrooms, as well as renovations to adjacent buildings for expanded dining facilities, a new technology center, and a new outdoor dining terrace. Designed and constructed to LEED Standards, this project includes a vegetative green roof, a daylight harvesting lighting system with light sensors, a cutain wall envelope with high efficiency glass that responds to window orientation and solar gain, and high efficiency mechanical systems. This project received a 2009 Honor Award for Design Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects.
