Carl A. Fields Center
Princeton, NJ
ABA designed the new home for the Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding and Community House at Princeton University. The building offers a larger setting for the Fields Center and Community House's programs, and is accessible, dynamic, visible and welcoming. The project presents a striking contrast between old and new and revives an historic building located at 58 Prospect Ave., while juxtaposes it with a contemporary addition, collectively creating spaces for new events and programs in conjunction with the educational and social activities that occur in the building. The restored building provides community tutorial facilities, seminar rooms and offices. Connected to the restored building by a light filled lobby, the addition offers a new entry open to the lawn and terrace, a catering kitchen, and a wood-lined gathering space for several hundred, designed for music, lectures, conferences, and special events. The building is designed for environmental sustainability and opened in Fall 2009.
