Philip Chen’s innovative design for new and historic structures, his outstanding project management, and his expertise in sustainability and technical innovation have brought distinction and honor to his academic, cultural and civic clients throughout the United States. Philip is currently leading projects at the University of Chicago, The Pennsylvania State University, the Massachusetts States House, and at Rhode Island’s historic Fort Adams. At the University of Pennsylvania, he led the award-winning project for the Music Building, creating a new center for Music Education and Performance, and completing the first LEED Silver project on Penn’s historic campus. Prior to joining ABA, Philip served as Project Architect for the planning, renovation and new construction of the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge.

Philip Chen holds a Master of Architecture Degree from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University. He is a member the School of Architecture Advisory Council at Northeastern University and the Society for College and University Planning. He has also served as a Guest Critic at the Boston Architectural College, Northeastern University, Roger Williams University, the University of Houston, and Tulane University. In addition, Philip has served as a Juror for the Harleston Parker Medal Award, one of the profession’s most prestigious architectural honors.
