Tom Hotaling’s professional work includes campus and institutional, Master Planning, historic preservation, and the design for new buildings in sensitive and complex settings. His museum experience includes Master Planning and renovations for the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA; the Master Plan for the Wadsworth Athenaeum; the Millennium project at the Portland Art Museum in Oregon, and the Arizona State Museum in Tucson. Tom has led projects on archival, conservation, and library buildings including the Hawthorne Longfellow Library at Bowdoin College, the Information Commons and the Annenberg Rare Book and Manuscript Library at the University of Pennsylvania; and the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Massachusetts Historical Society. Master Planning and campus planning under Tom Hotaling’s direction include the Old North Church campus in Boston’s North End, Louis Kahn’s Library at Phillips Exeter Academy in NH, the Instituto Internacional in Madrid, and the University School in Cleveland.

A registered Architect in the United States and in Great Britain, Tom is a graduate of Dartmouth College, and received a Master of Architecture Degree from Washington University, where he serves on the University’s National Council. He has been a faculty member at the Boston Architectural College and a visiting lecturer for the Museum Studies Program at Harvard University, and continues to serve as a visiting design critic for academic and cultural organizations in the New England area.
